Arthritis Management Through Exercise for Retirement Village Residents
Reignite Health delivers specialised physiotherapy and exercise physiology programs for seniors managing arthritis. Evidence-based treatments delivered directly to retirement villages across Sydney and the Central Coast.
How Exercise Helps Manage Arthritis
Research consistently shows that regular, supervised exercise is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis in older adults. Despite common misconceptions, the right type of exercise reduces joint pain rather than making it worse.
Exercise strengthens the muscles around affected joints, reducing the load on cartilage and bone. It improves joint lubrication, maintains range of motion, and helps manage the inflammation that drives arthritis pain. Our aged care exercise programs are specifically designed for older adults with joint conditions.
The key is doing the right exercises at the right intensity, supervised by qualified professionals who understand arthritis. That's exactly what Reignite Health provides.
Our Approach to Arthritis Management
Personalised Physiotherapy
One-on-one assessments identify your specific joint issues, pain patterns, and functional goals. Your physio creates a tailored treatment plan.
Exercise Physiology
Evidence-based exercise programs that progressively build strength and mobility around arthritic joints, managed by accredited exercise physiologists.
Group Fitness Classes
Social, supervised group sessions including gentle circuits, aqua aerobics, and resistance band classes suitable for residents with arthritis.
Types of Arthritis We Work With
Osteoarthritis
The most common form in older adults. Cartilage breakdown causes pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion in joints. Particularly affects knees, hips, hands, and spine.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
An autoimmune condition causing joint inflammation, swelling, and pain. Exercise helps manage symptoms, maintain joint function, and reduce fatigue.
Inflammatory Arthritis
Including psoriatic arthritis, gout, and other inflammatory conditions. Targeted exercise reduces flare-ups and maintains mobility between episodes.

What a Typical Session Looks Like
Every session is tailored to your current pain levels and abilities. A typical arthritis management session might include:
- •Warm-up (5-10 mins): Gentle range-of-motion exercises to loosen stiff joints and prepare your body
- •Strengthening (15-20 mins): Targeted resistance exercises using bands, light weights, or body weight to build muscle around affected joints
- •Balance work (5-10 mins): Proprioception and stability exercises to reduce fall risk
- •Cool-down (5 mins): Stretching and mobility work to maintain joint range of motion
Sessions are delivered at your retirement village — no travel needed. Your therapist adjusts every session based on how you're feeling that day.
